Looks like Arsenal's continuing slump is wreaking havoc on our league. Lots of changes this week, with a fair bit of single-position switching. Most significantly, Fat Buddha dropped out of the Top 3, dropping two spots to #5, and watching corpse and apt820 muscle past him. Kudos goes to pfuller for bridging the gap between the "latecomers" and the rest of us, by pulling into #14. At the top, StarFucker extended his lead over elsoltano (and thus, the rest of us) from 22 pts to 35 pts.

Still no update.... Is it me or did they update this shit alot quicker when the season first started!?!
posted by StarFucker at 01:59 PM on November 05, 2002
I think it was quicker at the beginning of the season. I also noticed that some of my players had updated scores on Sunday, but now they don't. I believe I did rather poorly this week anyway, so I will try not to let it bother me all that much. *goes back to checking for updated scores every five minutes*

So whats up with Sauril? Can we bump him off? It looks crappy with some guy on there with no points...
posted by StarFucker at 04:38 PM on November 05, 2002
Can I get a whoop whoop? I polled you guys earlier about cutting sauril but not a single one of you answered. So I left him in there so that mossy wouldn't feel so bad. ;-) And yes, they did update this shit a lot quicker. My guess now is they'll only update this Friday. Why? I clicked on Player Performance to see who were the top points-scoring players this week, and came to a page that said "This info will be updated Nov 8." My guess is they'll do it all at one go. Funny thing is player points (and prices) are being updated, but not team points. Weirdos. I'm thinking more and more they have some lousy-ass system that requires a lot of manual massaging rather than automated action.

What the fuck?! Its now Wednesday and still no update!?! What a bunch of crap...i'm going to play FOXSPORTSWORLD Fantasy league next year...this sucks! By the way, if we could still get rid of Sauril that would be great.

StarFucker: Is the Fox league free? If so, count me in. These slow updates are beginning to grate on the nerves.

No, its 14.95. I am also playing in Soccernet's Fantasy League which is about the same price and MAN, it is worth it! Its kickass! Take a look at my team here, http://classic.fantasyleague.com/app/team/team.asp?team=810783

Along with the cool layout and great website with player info, i get updates sent to my mobile phone, and i get injury and suspension updates by email... Its my second year... Last year i won a mouse pad for coming in second in my league.. But i guess they have big prizes like trips to Europe if you win the whole thing. Man, that would be sweet! But i don't think i'm good enough for that. The other thing thats cool is that there are side competitions that you automatically get to participate in like the Champion's League and FA Cup.

StarFucker: OK, since we have to shell out $15 for either Fox or Soccernet, which one would you suggest? I've seen the Team of the week on Soccernet, and I rely on Soccernet more than any other site for results and news, so I guess there's a built-in bias. But I'd like to hear it from someone who's actually used them both.

Well...i haven't used the FOXSPORTSWORLD one actually...i just see it advertised all the time when watching Premier League games... The Soccernet one is A1. Great stats, great reports... Cool GUI... I would recommend it...but this is my opinion based on only using Soccernet. Has anyone else ever tried the FOXSPORTSWORLD one?

oh hey, what did you think of my team?
posted by StarFucker at 11:41 AM on November 06, 2002
Well, I'm all for the GUI, love the chockablock players. As for your team, I was partial to icons: the pint o' Guinness manager and the "underwear" team shield. Did you make those or do they come with the game? First class. As for the players, I've picked them all at one time or another this season, so you won't get any guff from me. I was a little overwhelmed by the functions, league and prize possibilities, but I'm sure it all sorts itself out when one actually plays the game. Maybe the rest of the fellas would be interested in taking part next season. Hellooooo...?

As for Sauril: I sent him an email and posted an open letter to him on the League message board saying that I'll delete his team from the League after Week 15, if he hasn't selected a full team by then. Also, if he emails me that he's out, I'll delete him before Week 15.

The icons are provided for you...there are about 200 to choose from... and they add more all the time. It was a bit hard to understand at first, but you catch on quickly. I'll definitely be in next season...but i am also going to play the professional version where only one team can have Michael Owen or Jerzy Dudek... Its alot of work to draft all these players but i have some hardcore friends who will do it with me. You have to go to a pub and hold a draft...we were going to do it this year but found out about it too late.

I think I would probably be interested in a pay league with those kind of options. It sucks to wait this long to find out how well you did. (Although I can't complain too much for a free service.)
posted by pfuller at 01:40 PM on November 06, 2002
I'd be interested in a pay league also if it had better features and quick updates. Yahoo is getting very annoying!
posted by elsoltano at 09:59 PM on November 06, 2002
Whoa! Looks like the updates have begun! HOWEVER, they haven't added points for the Boro game nor have they updated the points private league standings. Also, sauril just emailed me and graciously said it's OK to delete him. He's been too busy to participate. Try again next season, sauril!

SO uhh...what updates have begun?
posted by StarFucker at 10:01 AM on November 07, 2002
Your individual points. Except for Monday, and your points in your specific league. So, you can click on Blammos and see points your points have been updated for this past Sat and Sun, but not Monday. And if you click on SpoFi League, your points are still the same as last week's.

So am i reading that correctly? I have 888 points!?!
posted by StarFucker at 01:03 PM on November 07, 2002
Nevermind, i read it wrong...i have 754.21
posted by StarFucker at 01:20 PM on November 07, 2002
Holy mother of ...? I have 10,200 points! Hahahahaha ... Hmmm. I would probably wait until tomorrow for the dust to settle. Looks like more evidence of lousy tech architecture that yahoo has to do their laundry in public, rather than just display their finery after the work's been done. OK. Enough bad metaphors. Back to work.

How I chuckled when I booted the likes of Anelka and filled my team with Man Utd and Liverpool players. Excuse me while I open a vein.
