I'm not sure that Boomer and Marino are really great choices for replacemnts in any situation. Boomer is a master of the obvious statement and Marino is board stiff. At least Ditka, though I rarely caught CBS's pregame, looked like he was gonna pop any second. Not that any of this matters, I mean, c'mon, its the CBS pregame show.

All of the news stories I've seen/read about this do the same thing your original post does, hicandenza, and that is make it sound like Ohno was tackled, beaten and then shanked. When I saw the tape, it looked more like Kim made a casual move and Ohno used a little bit o' the basketball style overdramataic-throw-yourself-on-the-ground-when-someone-grazes-you-on-the-elbow play. That's not to say that Ohno doesn't deserve the medal. I read the rules today and it Kim 100% violated them. Just to say that the ruling wasn't really very controversial (violate rules, lose points) and the event wasn't all that dramatic. (But then, what do I know, I spent a night thoroughly enjoying women's curling.) (btw rcade, I thought the same thing about the flag. there would be some serious tarring and feathering if it had been a US athlete post-9/11)

I'm going to go with just nerdy enough. Maybe XML will save the world (insert cackling laughter). Could you imagine, though, all the markup tags necessary to describe every stat in the olympics?

Much like Dodger announcer Vin Scully, I can't even imagine a Laker game without Chick Hearn. He was one of the greats and will be sorely missed. Hearn retained a character in his announcing style that the game itself has long forgotten.
