Done Deal, Nomar to Dodgers: Nomar Garciapara signs 1 Year Deal with Red Sox West (Dodgers)

Good luck, Nomar. The Dodgers will suck with you just as much as they sucked without you. You could have signed with a team that contends, but decided to sign with a squad that finished 20 games under .500. Make a big paycheck without any of that pesky pressure that goes along with being expected to win. The Dodgers have been a joke since the days of Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes and Ron Cey, and that trend will continue.

I believe there was more to it than that, dyams. Like he and his wife, Mia Hamm, have a home in Manhattan Beach (South Bay). Mia's last marriage apparently ended partially because she and her then husband were never with each other. I have read that she and Nomar don't want that to happen with them. I admire him for this decision. But then again, I don't think the Dodgers are going to be as bad as dyams thinks.

C'mon Terrapin, join the real world. Nomar is just looking for a paycheck. Not to mention "best friends" Mia and Nomar hooking up while she was still married. Two years or less and they will be done also.

Two years or less and they will be done also. What influence will this divorce have on the Dodgers' 2007 season? The mind boggles.

Reno: The real world is that it has been reported that other teams bid higher for Nomar's services, and yet he chose the Dodgers. Many speculate that it is at least partially because he already lives in LA. You do the math.

Johnny Damon is next, so long as the Boys in Blue give up on Reggie Sanders as an alternative if Damon stays. This will really help the Dodgers. As a Dodger fan, I am so far intrigued by the new name Red Sox West. There is truth to the word. The 2006 Dodgers are going to be a mirror image of the 2003 Red Sox, yet the results are still unknown. If history is to repeat itself, the 2006 Dodgers ('03 BoSox) will make it to the World Series and we'll go from there, because they have no Yankees to face in the NLCS. However, it is amazing how determined Frank McCourt is. Let us look at his chechlist so far: 1) Hire Ned Colletti as GM. (check) 2) Hire Grady Little as Manager. (check) 3) Sign Raffy Furcal. (check) 4) Sign Bill Mueller. (check) 5) Sign Nomar. (check) 6) Sign Johnny Damon (alternative) Reggie Sanders. (?) No doubt they'll get Damon to set up the new roster. Go Dodgers!!!

Red Sox West How about Giants south? With Mueller at third Kent at second and Coletti expressing interest in Aurillia, Snow, Sanders, and Lofton. I assume Snow is not really of interest any more with nomar playing first, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the other three happen. As far as Johnny D is concerned, is there serious talk of him going to LA? My understanding was that the Dodgers were anticipating an $85 million payroll. The Nomar signing puts them around $88-91 Million. If Damon is coming does that mean someone else will be traded, or are they just planning to break the bank and make a legit playoff run? Who plays more games this year JD Drew of Nomar? Do the two combine for more or less than 162?

Giants South is good. They will probably get all four named. There will be some trades, but the bank will be broken. I believe that JD and Nomar will miss some games, but they will both play a majority of the season. Of the four Giants, Sanders will come first to the podium.

Nomar will go on to (*.*) have a slumpy start, get injured and finish collecting a juicy pay-check for hardly any play-time.... Go Dodgers !!!!!! Deep down inside, I was hoping he'd signed with the Yankees and had gone to (*.*)

i like giants south too. the giants in recent history have signed lots of rent-a-vets as stopgaps, presumably so their young guys can develop and come up in their place. this seems like the strategy down in socal and i love that they haven't mortgaged the farm's jewels in exchange for an improbable WS win today. i think if they add damon or sanders, they can contend, but not win it all. hey, anything's better than the joke of a team they fielded under depodesta. here's the real question: who's going to pitch?

I know the allure of the pinstripes is tough to turn down, but remember Nomar's agent is awful (60mil reasons why). He's not gonna stop his client from making a "suck" decision.

The Dodgers better think long and hard about adding some legitimate power to their lineup. Nomar doesn't have the real pop anymore, and (if he happened to sign with L.A.) Damon, though good, will just slap it around. Unless I'm missing something, who in their lineup, besides an aging Kemp, will put up good power numbers?

To bring the discussion back to Nomar's signing; if I may, there is still some question as to which position Nomar is going to play. There are some reports that he will be filling in at 1st. This seems like a mistake to me considering Nomar's production, most likely will not reach the production of last year's Choi/Saenz platoon. 3rd is out with Mueller on the roster. LF has been mentioned as a distinct possibility depending on whether or not Colletti decides to actually give Choi a chance at consistent playing time/at-bats, or trade him. It is interesting that Colletti is roundly (from my POV) being given kudos from the media for this off-season, considering that all the signings but Furcal's are stop-gaps for the kids in AA/AAA which is exactly what Depodesta had done last year. The names may be a bit "flashier" but the impetus is the same, sign some veterans to hold down roster slots until '07. The main difference being that Depodesta's signings weren't as expensive, and that his squad was heavily hit by injuries. It will be interesting to see if Colletti is held to the same standard should this squad fall victim to the injury bug again in '06, or if he'll be given a pass.

The Dodgers might keep Choi around if they do not sign Reggie Sanders to play left. It looks like Lofton is going to be signed to play center. If Sanders is signed, say goodbye to Choi if he tries to get too much in arbitration. The bigger question is Cesar Izturis and what they will do with him, especially if there are no injuries to the infield by the time he gets back. And I sincerely Damon or the Dodgers are interested in making a deal.

Not to mention I am impressed at the length of these contracts (except for Furcal's). One year contracts give some great prospects another year to progress in the minors.
