Why would you fire Joe Morgan? It is refreshing to hear comentary from some one that knows baseball like Joe and several other of the good baseball people who are now commenting on air. HOW ABOUT THEM ASTROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing you can count on with Joe....he knows everything there is to know about baseball and can turn any situation into a "That reminds me of the time when I was playing for the..."

By fire do you mean terminate employment or shoot out of a cannon?

Oh come on! I think this blog, and the person who wrote it, is more annoying than Joe ever has been...

I think yerfatma has linked to this site a couple times (not as a front page post however).

He is a very well knowledged baseball historian and that's great. But why is it that We always have to listen to stories of his past Reds experiences that he can never have back. While it's understood that Joe was a great ballplayer and has all this knowledge of the sport he truly loves, he needs to find more focus on the now. I remember those days with the Big Red Machine as I remember the teams many other announcers have played for in all sports. But listening to someone continuously go through his memories of 30 years ago only brings annoyance to my ears. Joe, We like you, just stick with the game you are calling, and for god sakes...Pep it up a bit too!

Joe Morgan is OK. Dump Chris 'the blimp' Berman on ESPN. His overly zealous hoopla belongs in a sports bar ( where he should be ) throwing back some JD shots.

Joe Morgan calls the game of baseball 'then and now'. I learn a little more about the game each time when you have people like morgan calling a baseball game, anyone should be getting fired is them cheerleaders from Fox Sports Net calling the Angels games.

FIRE JOE MORGAN? HOW STUPID! NOT ONLY IS HE ONE OF THE GREATEST ALL STARS IN BASEBALL HISTORY, HE IS A FEARLESS COMMENTATOR THAT TELLS IT LIKE IT IS INCLUDING THE STRATEGY, WHILE OTHER COMMENTATORS, LIKE VINCE SCULLY, ARE SOFT SOAPERS WHO STILL HANDLE TV GAMES LIKE RADIO OVER-REPORTING THE PLAY-BY PLAY.

Common! If you were part of the greatest baseball team ever, you'd be constantly talking about it, too. I'm referring to the 1975-76 BIG RED MACHINE!!! Thats right, baby!

JM is an annoying blabbermouth. OK, we get it, he knows baseball. He just knows squat about baseball commentating; he is D-U-L-L with a capital ZZZZzzzzz!! I'm still waiting for the the John Madden of Baseball to arrive; a guy who knows his stuff, and is entertaining at the same time.

I'm still waiting for the the John Madden of Baseball A lot of you may disagree, but I think Lou Pinella at least has the potential. (Then again, a lot of people don't like Madden either.)

...HE IS A FEARLESS COMMENTATOR THAT TELLS IT LIKE IT IS INCLUDING THE STRATEGY, WHILE OTHER COMMENTATORS, LIKE VINCE SCULLY, ARE SOFT SOAPERS WHO STILL HANDLE TV GAMES LIKE RADIO OVER-REPORTING THE PLAY-BY PLAY... You have got to be joking me. No one questions that Joe was a great player, but his analysis is anything but. As for your sullying of the great Vin Scully. Blasphemy. Utter Blasphemy. I repeat so that you may understand: ITS HARD TO DISPUTE WITH THE LOGIC THAT YOU HAVE DISPLAYED SO PROMINENTLY. BUT NONETHELESS IT APPEARS THAT YOU HAVE LESS BRAINS THAN LOWER CASE LETTERS. DO US ALL A FAVOR AND LAY OFF THE CAPS LOCK.

LIKE VINCE SCULLY, ARE SOFT SOAPERS WHO STILL HANDLE TV GAMES LIKE RADIO OVER-REPORTING THE PLAY-BY PLAY. You insulted Vince Scully? Why don't you just pee on Ted Williams frozen head, if you want to be disrespectful.

You'd rather listen to Joe Morgan than Vin Scully? Somebody drop you on the soft spot when you were a baby?

John Madden: the guy who made Superbowl XXXVI and his partner Pat Summerall's last broadcast more memorable with his exhortation that Tom Brady should be taking a knee and waiting for overtime with 1:30 remaining on the clock.

Someone dig up the previous thread (I think dusted posted it) about the guy who tried to interview Joe Morgan. Morgan is a paranoid old fool. I learned a lot about NL baseball from him when I was a kid, but his opinions now are nothing short of embarassing. No one defending him has ever listened closely to what he says. Next time he's doing a game, play a little game of your own and think about everything he says as if it were literally true. You'll be amazed. He's impossible. I once saw Karl Ravetch lose his patience on air with Morgan because Joe would not answer the one question he was on air to answer.

yerfatma, are you thinking of this thread?

Joe Morgan consistantly passes on false information about the fundamentals of the game. He is wrong about 50 % of the time and speculates (wildly) the other 50%. The average fan knows no better. He was a great player and I loved to watch him. Now... I turn the sound down to avoid being irritated. You average fans out there need to get a clue.

It's actually a crime he has not been hire as a manager. He knows baseball and he knows the players and teams. I've wondered for years now why he has not been offered a job. He is also a baseball celebrity himself which IN itself could be a draw.

Joe Morgan was a great baseball player. He is knowledgeable about the game. But he is also a lousy sportscaster. He is arrogant and dull. Maybe he should be managing or coaching, but sportscasting is not his strong point. Move on Joe.

they must mean fire out of a cannon this guy is way to good of an announcer to get rid of maybe gentle george (steinbrenner ) will get him and get rid of john sterling

posted by FrankySP at 08:54 AM on October 22, 2005

i have an idea why not replace him with john sterlimg's understudy suzzy waldmen kill two birds with one stone and get that fountain of baseball literacy and knowledge at the same time

posted by FrankySP at 09:14 AM on October 22, 2005

I've wondered for years now why he has not been offered a job [as a manager]. Because you need to know what you're doing, be able to accept criticism and accept input from others. Apparently people within baseball do not believe Joe is capable of this.
