Pace Mannion NBA Pick 'Em Contest: Final Week: One week left in SportsFilter's contest to win an ABA basketball, a tilt that lacks drama because Howard_T has whupped us. Nine games to predict this week, including three extra ones from NBA TV. The NBA Playoff Pick 'Em is coming soon.

I wanted the NBA contest to go out on a high note, so I added some games. Next year's Pace Mannion will be administered by software. Manually doing the results each week did me in when my work responsibilities changed.
The Detroit at Miami picks have already been made, of course, so this thread's predictions should begin with tonight's NBA TV game between Golden State and San Antonio.
If you have any suggestions for rule changes, let me know. One I favor is 3 points when you hit a game exactly and 2 if you're close. I'm also contemplating whether the close-enough range should max out at X points in either direction. It seems a little silly to me that a 30-point blowout can award from 21 to 39.

On the face of it, yeah, it seems kinda silly, but it's only nine points in either direction, which for a blow-out in basketball, is not that much. But whatevs, play it how you want. Maybe cap it at six in either direction.

The schedule has left us with some tough games to pick. It starts with tonight's promise of a classic in San Antonio. Warriors need a win to beat Chicago's record; Spurs want to keep their clean sheet at home. Who will prevail? Atlanta needs a win at Cleveland to maintain it's lock on 3rd in the East. Will Cleveland rest the regulars on Monday, or will they play it to win? Miami at Boston will be another game vital to the chances of both teams. 3rd through 5th place in the East is on the line, and both teams want to finish looking forward to having the home advantage in the first round of the playoffs. While all of this is going on, some of the teams will be resting regulars and others, out of the post season, will be trying to make statements about their statements for next season. It's going to be a very hard week to predict.
10 April
Golden State by 6 Coach Kerr has left it up to the players whether or not to go for the record. They will try.
11 April
Atlanta by 12 Cleveland rests the regulars
Sacramento by 9 Phoenix tries to improve its draft position.
12 April
San Antonio by 10 Neither team has anything to gain, but San Antonio's bench is better.
LA Clippers by 8 Another case where standings are not affected.
13 April
Boston by 12 Celtics bear down, clinch 4th in the East, and push Miami to 6th.
Golden State by 15 SLAM The record belongs to the Warriors.
LA Lakers by 9 Kobe has the floor for his final dance, and the music is Jazz.
I wanted the NBA contest to go out on a high note
This has been a fun contest, and I don't say that because of any success I have had. You might have guessed I'm a long time NBA fan, so anything to do with the game holds great interest for me. Many thanks, 'Cade, for running it; it's been on a high note all season.

In the final week, Howard_T is a slam dunk to get the ABA basketball. I win the week (huzzah! huzzah!). Only Ufez misses a slam dunk with Boston's upset over Golden State. Howard_T celebrates his 75th birthday by NOT picking Boston to win on their biggest win of the season. Happy birthday!
Rules
Pick the winner and spread for each game. Score 5 points if the team wins, 3 more points if your spread is close and another 2 if you hit the spread exactly.
At your option, make one game a slam dunk to triple your score in victory or lose 5 points in defeat.
Read the detailed rules on the first week's post.
If SportsFilter is down and you need to submit your picks, you can send them in email to me.
This Week's Games
Six national games this week, supplemented by three NBA TV games to end the contest with a bigger week. The top two teams in the West meet Sunday night. Cleveland hosts fellow division leader Atlanta. Oklahoma City and San Antonio meet as both teams are struggling a bit. 42-win Memphis gets two tough road games on back-to-back nights. Kobe Bryant's farewell tour has one final stop on national TV.
