Wales Manager Gary Speed Found Dead: Cheshire police confirm that Speed, who was the first player to make 500 appearances in England's Premier League and added 85 appearances for his country, was found dead in his home. The Football Association of Wales have stated that Speed took his own life.

Tragic that someone who is young, healthy, has a loving wife and children and a promising career would choose to do this. Of course don't know what was in his mind or the reality of his personal life but as with so many suicides this appears to be a sad outcome.

I am stunned by this news. Speed had Wales playing good football and there is a promising time ahead for the country with the rise of Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale.
None of this papers over any personal troubles Speed had that led him to his decision, but it's just a shock to me to go from the general air of positivity around Speed and Wales to this.
