All too perfect: Tom Brady the pimp and the Patriots quest for perfection will be realized.
I lied. If nothing else, I take issue with the idea the closest Walton came to perfection was 21-22 at UCLA. He was on the '86 Celtics and that's as close as I've seen someone get in basketball, and Klosterman damn well knows that as a Celts fan. I buy the logic to a certain extent, but the problem is "no one" will talk about the 2007 Patriots in 10 years if they lose this Superbowl, "no one" here meaning about 10% of the people that would talk about the 2k7 Pats if they win the Superbowl. Will they be more likable for being more human if they lose? Sure. But then you can file them away with the '85 Bears and a couple of other All-Decade teams. In an age where media talks about "THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME" whenever someone goes 4-4 with a double and a good catch in the outfield, let's not start crapping on transcendence until we've seen it.

The power to go undefeated and win the Super Big-Game is insignificant compared to the power of the Dark Side. Just ask Beelzechick.

Tom Brady has the kind of looks that make grandmothers want to reach out and muss up his hair. Giselle Bundchen has the kind of looks that make grandfathers want to... Well, never mind what grandfathers would like to think they could do with Giselle. That sort of stuff belongs somewhere else. If you look at the 3 requirements for perfection that Aristotle listed (no, not the basketball Aristotle, the Greek one), you realize that perfection is unattainable. If New England wins the Super Bowl, then 2 of the 3 requirements will have been fulfilled, that is completeness and having achieved a purpose. The third requirement (second on the list) can not be fulfilled. There could be another team someday that also goes 19 - 0, but in addition does something extraordinary on either offense (a high scoring average, perhaps) or on defense that makes New England's year pale in comparison. I'm very much looking forward to the game. I promise that if New England loses I will not use Brady's injury as an excuse, nor will I trumpet Brady's overcoming of said injury as magnifying his (and the team's) accomplishments.

Or were you thinking of Scott Wedman? They had one of the great frontcourts of all time. But they were also the meat in a Lakers Championship sandwich (85 and 87)

bull!!!! there is nothing perfect about the Pats except their wins record....the Ravens and the Colts both had them beaten and handed over the games on silver engraved platters....heres to the Giants leaving the engravers and the silver at home...GO GIANTS!

bull!!!! there is nothing perfect about the Pats except their wins record Have you ever seen a pitcher strike out 27 consecutive batters? no. Have you ever seen a wedding go exactly according to plan? no. Have you ever had a day, in which not only did nothing go wrong, but everything that could go right, did? The answer, again, is no, yet we attribute that word to a baseball game in which no batter for one team reaches base. If the wedding plans have contingiancy after contingiancy, but the wedding itself goes well, and the bride cries tears of joy, she often refers to it as perfect. And many times a day goes well, with a plesent surprise, and nothing catastrophic going wrong, and it is referred to as a perfect day. My point is that the word perfect is over-used, but still has some meaning. The 72 dolphins didnt blow everyone out either the vikings only lost by two, the bills by one, the jets by and steelers, both by four. the point is that they didnt lose. ever. In NFL terms, That. Is. Perfection. Fight it. Hate it. Deny it. But dont think for a minute that you can change it.

the Ravens and the Colts both had them beaten Agreed. The fact remains that they didn't beat them. It doesn't matter what they WERE doing. It only matters what they DID. What the Ravens and Colts DID was lose the game.

I agree. Fair or not, if the Pats lose, they become just the answer to a trivia question. If they win, then they'll considered one of the greatest teams (if not the greatest) of all time. No pressure, though.

Would that increase or decrease the value of my "Four Horseman of the Apocholypse" trading (complete, mint condition!) card set?

It would decrease (and would never have had any value to begin with) if those "Four Horsemen of the (Lions) Apocolypse" cards are Matt Millen, Mike Martz, Charles Rogers, and Mike Williams.

All too perfect The Patriots winning the Super Bowl would not be the way I'd define the perfect season. To me, perfect would have been the Redskins somehow getting to the big game to play against them, and beating the Patriots. A cooler filled with cold beer, good friends and big time Patriot fans watching the game with me. Oh, and by the way.....betting on the skins and winning. Now to me, that's perfection! Well, I know this is probably more of a perfect hallucination. You've got to hand it to the Pat's though. They already are, win or loose, one of the greatest teams of all time. But come on folks.... haven’t we all heard the phrase before? "Nobody's perfect"
