He's baaaaaack! (sort of):
Everyone's favourite baseball player that refers to himself in the 3rd person returns to the major leagues as a coach.
I sure do hope that Rickey can indeed help with improve the Mets offense, they just haven't reached their fullest potential as of yet. Injuries have taken their toll on the offensive side but still, the NL is theirs for the taking now all they have to do is get their act together and take care of business.

You can't argue with the numbers Henderson has put up during his playing career. If even 50% of his skill set can be passed on to the hitters, there would be a marked improvement. It remains to be seen how well he does, but I do know that the man loves the game.

As long as Rickey can get Rickey's players to hit like Rickey, Rickey won't have any problems with Rickey's fans, or Rickey's bosses. tommytrump wishes Rickey the best in Rickey's new job.

"rickey hennerson wanted to make sure it's not awkward for you, bein older than your hittin coach and all" I am reminded of Ted Williams' achievements as a hitting coach. Natural ability may preclude teaching.

Geez. Franco is forty-freaking-eight. Wow.

...and apparently, now, no longer a major-league baseball player with the New York Mets. From wow to aww.

Julio Franco will end up on some other team; it's a bylaw of MLB that he has to be on some team. Rickey Henderson will probably help the Mets. Bonkers is always glad to hear that Rickey is helping people become good like Rickey. But yerfatma could be right, too.

According to WFAN, Henderson may not be the permanent replacement as hitting coach. The Mets said they may end up with either Rickey or possibly Howard Johnson in the post full time.

May 18, 2007 Beane said that the team might consider bringing Henderson back for one game -- perhaps when rosters expand in September -- so that he could retire in an A's uniform. The A's would be open to the idea as long as it was workable with the roster situation at that point and if the details were firmly settled with Henderson in advance.

Rickey Henderson is BitterOldPunk's favorite baseball player ever, and as a Mets fan, he hopes Rickey Henderson has a long and productive future with the club. He doubts it, Rickey Henderson being Rickey Henderson and all (and the Mets being the Mets), but still he hopes.

Grum is very happy that Rickey is back in the MLB in some way. Grum thinks that if Jose Reyes benefited that much from Rickey's help in spring training, then this might be a great idea. Of course, with expanded rosters in September, a team way ahead in (or out of) the playoff race, a couple of injuries, maybe Rickey gets a chance to play again? Grum wouldn't mind seeing that. Rickey still wouldn't be the oldest player on the team...
