Warriors Beat Mavericks in Series Opener: The eighth-seeded Golden State Warriors pulled a huge upset on the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks Sunday, beating them for the fourth time this season. Mavs Coach Avery Johnson is being criticized for changing to a centerless, small-ball lineup. "Why is the top seed in the entire tournament allowing Golden State to dictate the matchups?" asks Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist Randy Galloway.

I like Baron Davis's 70s style beard.

This game was a pretty big shock. I watched it, and the Mavs looked like the number 8 seed.

Upset would be the Mavs getting shelled for three more games and getting swept.

What about this game was stunning? Nelly played the same way he did all year which has worked and Avery... well he decided to change up, I guess what got them to 67 wins wasn't working out for them so why not change it up in the playoffs? Also, if a team beats you 4 out 6 times by double digits why would it be stunning when they continue that success? But like Dirk and Cuban have been saying all year, you have to beat them 4 times and they think that will never happen. I just hope it takes 7 games to prove someone wrong!

Randy Galloway owes Jay Aych of The Painted Area a beer. Dude predicted that the Warriors going small would give the Mavs trouble.

Excuse me I am just simple country girl from Texas and I cant get my mind around this. Did the Mavericks win 67 games or did Golden State? I am sure starting Nowitzski as center had nothing to do with their loss. I am with warstda, why fix it if aint broke. I was really hoping this morning to see the headlines, "cowboy hat wearing cubans 1 ---- rice a roni 0. Oh, well, Wednesday we will see.

If this was in the last century, namely a 5 game series, the Mavs would have reason to be concerned. But today, no prob.

Did the Mavericks win 67 games or did Golden State? I am sure starting Nowitzski as center had nothing to do with their loss. The Mavericks should be concerned. It doesn't matter how many games you win, or whoever your go-to player is. The Warriors seem to built and trained to beat the Mavericks. Golden State has beaten the Mavs seven out of the last eight games and if i'm not mistaken, correct me if i am, they have won those seven games straight. I have the Mavs winning in seven games, but i'm pretty confident that the Warriors can win this matchup. As long as Baron Davis keeps that beard and playing style, he's the key to beating the Mavericks.

Dallas shot 35%, and I really don't think that was because of a stifling Warriors defense. The shooting was beyond horrendous. It's a seven-game series, and plenty of time for the Mavs to get their shot together. I would be beyond shock if the Warriors actually won this series.

If the Warriors win this series it will be one of the three biggest upsets in the last 23 years, seeding-wise, alongside the No. 8 Knicks beating the No. 1 Heat in 1999 and the No. 8 Nuggets beating the No. 1 Supersonics in 1994. But this would be the first such upset in a seven-game series. All of the talk I'm hearing -- Arnie Spanier on Sporting News Radio has proclaimed the series "over" -- seems pretty ridiculous to me. The Mavs are too good to lose four times to the Warriors.

" The Mavs are too good to lose four times to the Warriors." ...why not? they've already lost seven, what's 3 more?
