Making a new life through soccer: Luma Mufleh coaches the Fugees, a soccer team in Clarkston Georgia, and she is an example of the good that sport can do, because the Fugees are exactly that, refugees from all over the world, children with terrible pasts trying to make a new like for themselves. Nice. This could easily have been written as a Hallmark made-for-TV movie; kudos to the author for doing a better (and more honest) job of it.

Thanks for posting this. I read the article over the weekend and found the story it told both maddening and inspiring. In many ways this story exhibits the best and worst that America has to offer.

Great post, Fence. This reporter really dug into this story and hung with it for a while. Really nice piece. I was surprised by what I perceived as the writer kind of selling Mufleh out after the last game as a coach too concerned with wins and losses. The article doesn't really go too deeply into Mufleh's persona as coach as much as administrator, advisor and friend. It's a small criticism, as her big picture focus seems to be very well directed, but I just found that odd.
