Yao will miss at least 6 weeks:

Crushing blow. A team that needs to be on all cylinders to get anything done. I wonder if they'll look to make a move? I think the Sonics need to be blowed up and maybe Ray could be trade-bait.

How about a general 'bring out yer dead' post about the rash of injuries the NBA, (and really, more to the point, our fantasy basketball league), has had to deal with recently? Krstic gone for the season. Pierce is out 2-3 weeks. Ray Allen is just coming back. Tracy McGrady already on his annual visit to the IR. Baron Davis and Chris Webber should just about be ready to hit the IR list. Must be the new ball. Here is an available center. Are talking about practice? Really? Practice?

I was going to make a McNabb out for the year thread, but I was afraid people would call me a homer. geekyguy what's next? A 5th grader at a local boys club throws a punch at another 5th grader while playing the demonic game of basketball link?

Notwithstanding an admittedly lousy post (c'mon, a one-linker to yahoo?) this is a terrible setback for a player who is easily playing his best ball ever and who's added aggression and seven points per game. Houston was looking like a very, very dangerous low-seed, but could end up missing the playoffs.

Houston has had relatively good health this year...except for the 2 guys who need to be healthy for this team to succeed. Now, the team can still play decent ball (Luther Head has been outstanding with his 3-point shooting) and remember T-Mac could be back soon. But lets face it, this was a flawed team from the get go. They were built to succeed with BOTH Yao and T-Mac in the line-up from day one. With those two, this was a team that could challenge the "Big 3" of the West (Dallas, San Antonio and Phoenix). However, now that their two big guns are gone, where's the offense coming from? Rafer Alston and Luther Head look solid together, but both guys are 3rd and 4th scorers on a contending team and a 2nd and 3rd scorers on mediocre squads. Shane Battier and Juwon Howard have shown that they can score, but at this stage in their careers they are mearly complimentary pieces who cannot be counted on for nightly infusions of 20 points a game. RIP: Houston Rockets...another Houston franchise's season down the crapper...but thankfully it wasn't because of dumbass ownership/GMs making bad moves...it was the injury bug...

Whats with these players today. I dont remember superstarts of the past succumbing to injuries at this rate. Jordan, Magic, Bird...those guys never missed games. Now, the only superstars 's able to avoid the bug are Nash and Lebron.

Yeah, that broken foot that MJ suffered, he didn't miss any games with that, right? And Bird's chronic back didn't cost him any time or cause him to retire or anything, and Magic's health was always perfect, too, right? Thinking before you speak = priceless.

i got to agree with sportingo here. superstar players of today, currently in the middle of their primes, are missing loads of games. jordan's foot injury was really the only bad injury of his career and happened in '85. Bird was already slowing down by the time his back problems began, definitely no longer in his prime. And Magic's condition really doesnt apply here. And look at who is making frequent trips to the IR - many young guys in their primes (like Wade, Amare, Yao, TMac, etc.) Its really quite alarming.
