As a Redwing fan living in Dallas, I,m glad theStars are going to sign him. Lindros is bad news for any team .He was once a great player who had a greater ego. Now all that is left is the ego.I'm sure he will be OK for awhile but there will be nothing left by January.

As a long time Flyers fan I long to see the Lindros-Forsberg-Hextall etc. etc. trade never happen. Good luck soft head, keep yer head up crossin' the blue line.

Between 1 and 1.5 mil, huh? It almost seems worth it, doesn't it? If I ran the circus, I'd never sign the guy to my team, but that's because I have a weird, almost personal dislike of Eric Lindros. 1.25 million seems about right, though. As always, its very tempting to say that Eric Lindros could be a great addition to any team. If he manages 20 goals, he's a bargain at that price. If he's awful, he's still only ~1/40th of your cap money. It's not a bad signing, really. I still kind of hope he fails miserably, though.

This must mean the Rangers are going to sign Kerry Wood for about $1 Million....... give or take a few 100 Thousand........... Heck the Cowboys paid for two different QB's named Drew! Go figure....

I truly believe that he is a jinx on any team. He's always came close to the Cup, but always falls short.

This must mean the Rangers are going to sign Kerry Wood for about $1 Million Unfortunatly for them, Mark Prior will probably not be available much longer as he is considering a two year, eight million dollar extension.

I don't hate the Stars, but I admit I'm glad he's not the Leafs' problem anymore.

HAHAHA!!! Glad the stars have learned nothing over the past 10 seasons!! Hopefully his poison will not destroy another team.

Report: Dallas Stars to sign Frank Thomas to a $500,000 contract laden with incentives...

I would've liked to have seen him again in a Leafs sweater. He carried the team in October and November. Then the wrist happened. If only he would've realized 33 games does not earn $1.5m, and signed JFJ's low-ball contract offer.

I thought it was his life long dream to play for Toronto. I couldn't stop laughing when I read this: "I think it's a great fit," Lindros said to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Saturday. "Looking at the roster there, knowing (head coach) Dave Tippett and (assistant coach Mark) 'Chopper' Lamb from my Philly days... But then, I guess the beef was between his father/agent and Bob Clarke.

Check out Al Strachan's article on the ever-evolving NHL labour situation. It might even contain a back-handed compliment about your embattled GM.

I believe Strachan did try to slip in a compliment to JFJ there. Wonders never cease.

Last year I was really impressed by Turco's innovative approach to the shoot-out. It wasn't just Jussi. That sideways starting position to rush out and meet the shooter as far as possible from the net really seemed to put extra pressure on the shooter.

I can think of about 29 other teams that would fall all over themselves to get Marty Turco if Dallas doesn't want him. He's one of the top five goalies on the planet, he led the league in a bunch of categories, and he's just approaching his prime now. Who would you trade one-for-one for his, erm, "a@#?" If you're honest about it, no one. Lindros, on the other hand, I never was able to pull for, even in a Leaf uniform. (The draft-day tantrum is something I can't forgive, whether it's done by John Elway or Steve Francis or Eli Manning or The Big E.) I'm glad he was one-and-done with the Leafs. That said, he'll be good for, oh, 25 games this season, 17 goals/40 points, and a broken somethingorother or a nagging ligament issue that'll leave him too weak to be effective come playoff time, even if he is off the DL.

On paper, he is a hell of a player. On the ice, he is one concussion away from a drool cup. Retire Eric, while you can recognize yourself in the mirror!

If you're honest about it, no one. No offense, chico, and I realise that you may be trying to justify taking Marty 2nd overall in this year's FHL draft, but, as a Stars (sorta) fan, *shrug*. I liken Marty to, for lack of a better term, a Warren Moon kind of player. Initially underrated, willing to take a risk, but worth it all? Well, the playoffs speak. I'm not saying I'm hating on Turco (and now that Hedberg's in ATL, I've less a stool to stand on), but I can't help but think that his best days are behind him, esp. if he continues to disappear during the playoffs. As an aside to Mr. Hicks. Lindros is not the answer to losing Arnott and Guerin. Keep on trying, dipshit.

On paper, he is a hell of a player. I'm sure he cut hisself on that paper, too. As for Turco, I might be biased because I watched him play in college, but I think that last year was an anomaly. He is one of the best puck-handling goalies in the league, and his numbers aren't too shabby, either. I think the pressure of that big ass four year, $22.8 million contract extension got the better of him last year.

but I can't help but think that his best days are behind him Of course they are. Does anyone remeber what he did in the '03-'04 regular season? Although he may never acheive that level of play ever again Turco is still one of the top 5 goalies in the league. As far Lindros, this guy is done. He was never that great of a skater, he's as durable as a faberge egg, and his hands aren't quite what they used to be. Anyone who thinks he is going to fill Arnott's spot is just fucking looney.

I would be shocked if Lindros even approached Arnott's numbers of last year. (Mostly because it would mean playing over 50 games.) The fact remains that even when healthy over parts of the last 3 seasons, Lindros - who is not a good defensive forward - wasn't a point a game player. I think that even healthy, he's a shadow of his former self of three years ago, let alone 1996. It's too bad. But it's damn true. Turco - on the other hand - has one more kick at the can in terms of producing in the playoffs, if I'm keeping score in Dallas. It's the era of the cap, and we just saw three rookie goalies and a career back-up make it into the semi-finals. If Turco can't perform, then there's no point in keeping around a $4 million goalie anymore. Unless he's producing, of course. Clearly he's skilled enough. I think he does good things this year. And he better, because Dallas is definitely not looking as good right now.

Ah, how far the allegedly mighty have fallen. Lindros had a lot of potential, and he ended up in a bad situation as a very young captain with the Flyers. He could have been great if he'd kept his head up. 'Course, I'm an old Avs/'Diques fan, so I'm not losing any sleep since my franchise got the better end of the deal. All kidding aside, I'm not sure he'll make it beyond 50 games playing in the Western Conference.

The deal is done. All kidding aside, I'm not sure he'll make it beyond 50 games playing in the Western Conference. With the era of more offense and less fighting dawning, I tend to disagree with cbjack. I will go on record and set the over/under for games played by Lindros at 60.
posted by wingnut4life at 09:32 AM on July 18, 2006
The under looks mighty good from where I stand. My guess is: less than 40 games, less than 30 points.
posted by qbert72 at 09:42 AM on July 18, 2006
With the era of more offense and less fighting dawning, I tend to disagree Last season his injuries were self inflicted: he reinjured his wrist while taking a slapshot It doesn't matter how physical the game is or is not anymore. The guy is just plain injury prone. He's the kind of guy you don't want being hired at your company because it will raise the employees' health insurance premium.

He's going to stay healthy all season long this time. Honest.
