"Doc" Gooden back in jail,: apparently couldn't keep his nose clean.

Sounds like if he would have just kept quiet to his parole officer they never would have known. You have to admire his honesty.

Sounds like if he would have just kept quiet to his parole officer they never would have known. You have to admire his honesty. Nice thought, but the reality is he was so high he thought he was talking to his dealer. It's back to the Daryl Strawberry Drug Rehab and Recreational Sex Center for Doc.

If I'm not mistaken, the parole officer still does drug tests, whether random or every visit, I'm not sure. So even if he didn't say anything, I would assume he would have got caught. I could be wrong.

Poor Doc, I still can't believe him and Strawman got addicted to the rock. Its a shame that 2 of New York's legendary athletes were not immune to the crack epidemic that rocked so many communities in the mid 80's. To me he will always be the kid with the hard fast ball and nasty curve that got the Mets that 86 ring. God Be with him and his family

Save a place for Babyface! Maybe they can put Bonds in the same jail with (DOC) Gooden. They can be Rommies. They do have alot in common. Wife beaters, Tax evasion & Dopers! Only I think Doc is really sorry, but not Barry.

Ahhh, Doc has made some poor decisions, but drug addicition is a real illness. I've seen people go down that road and they need help, not additional punishments. Good luck to him - it's never too late to sober up (says the guy named Weedy).

Sublime4390116-You are correct-He could have been randomly tested by his parole officer at any time-Gotta give him props for the honesty, although I wonder if he had a guilty conscience at the time, or was he high?

Looking at some of the entries in this thread, I'm reminded that while addiction is truly difficult to beat, it can be done; stupidity and intolerance, however, are often terminal.

I'm really glad to see so much support for Doc (and Straw). Two of my favorites growing up. So sad. Can't blame em for being rich at 19 and among the most famous celebs in party-town USA... Too bad it hasn't happened to Eli Manning (yet)... I didn't mean that... Also happy to see a day couldn't go by without a dig at Barry Bonds...

If you told me in 1986 that Gooden and Straw wouldn't end up in the HOF, I'd have thought you were crazy. For that matter, Jose Canseco looked like a lock, too. I'd have guessed Eric Davis too. I love sports because they help to show us what people with potential can accomplish-- but stories like Strawberry and Doc show us how easy it is to fail. Davis shows us how frail we all are. And Canseco? Hey, sometimes an asshole is just an asshole.

I need help is the first and the last thing that anyone needs to say to themselves before they can beat any type of addiction. I have yet too see anyone beat alcahol or drug addiction by doing it for society or a loved one. It would be nice if we could love or care about someone more than they seem to care about them self but it can't be done.

From wikipedia Noun honorificabilitudinitatibus-The state of being able to achieve honours Notes This word is an example of a hapax legomenon, occurring in Shakespeare's works only in Act V, Scene I of Love's Labour's Lost (and only very rarely in the works of other authors). The_Black_Hand , Are you looking in the mirror while your typing? If so your very Talented! It's with great Honorificabilitudinitatibus (honours) that you noticed The Babyface comment. So does this mean sandi is giving TBH props for his post?? Im lost. Haveing an addictive personality I don't drink (alcohol) and try to avoid script meds. It truely is a shame Doc G. fell back but, as wingnut4life pointed out and weedy commented on, once an addict always an addict. Hopefully he will get the assistance he needs to steer clear of the poor decisions. Spofi is even better that the Readers Digest "word power" section each month.

Maybe if you'd add on to your profile, the rest of us dumb-ass-folk can get to know you a little better. Right now all I see is someone who just popped on to the SpoFi scene and wants to be a smartass and thinks that she's better than us dumb-ass-folk. I don't know how cocaine or crack addiction is, but I've heard it's really bad. Only thing's I've been addicted to is cigarettes, and that was a m#therf#cker to kick! Hey, honorificabilitudinitatibus is a webbed foot animal with a duck bill that swims in the water. Doc Goodin is swimming today in the crowbar hotel and I don't feel sorry for him. Just think of the small % of people in this country that make it to the big time and then lose their ability to retain sense. Also, barry Bond's is a loser. Roger maris is the homerun leader and Oh Can You See Canseco is nothing but ---- in my eyes. Bond's needs to hide his face in shame. Small man that can't admit to drug enhancement. Hank Arron is the man in Black Athletes in Baseball and he is the only one with a ligitemate record that beat the Babe. He earned it and should be recognized for it. Bond's McGuire, Sosa, Canseco, Giambi, Goodin, Strawberry, Howe and all the rest should be banned from sports period. BRING BACK Pete Rose he earned it and gambling doesn't even come close to drugs. We all gamble every time we leave our house and if the sports writers association members all think they have wings and a hallo, then they are stupid. They are not PERFECT, no one is. Do I think Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame, betyoursweetassido. Now that's a word. Bond's is a sublimeoderiferouseminator and is a black mark on the sport of baseball.

Doc's problem with cocaine is a life long one. Some of the (sub)humans who have been writing in this thread think once you go into some sort of recovery you are "cured" and if you go back to using your just a fuck up. Most of these people don't realize that addiciton is a battle fough every second of every day. I am admittidly bias when it cones to this subject but if folks like Sandi form Germany or the Toz showed a little compassion maybe more people would act as bravely as Doc and fess up to having a problem and not feel so ashamed when coming out about it.

For everyone's benefit, not feeding the trolls also means not discussing them in the same thread they're trying to hijack. When you do this, you can provoke the dreaded meta-troll: "Wah! You called me a troll!". So, once again with feeling: 1. Someone posts comment without any substance or value other than shock. 2. You're annoyed. 3. You recognized that you're annoyed by a troll. 4. You carry on with the original discussion, not even acknowledging the troll. That is the only way to deal with a troll. Anything else is wasted energy. Thanks.
