Ex-NHLer Fleury ejected from British hockey game: Just when you thought this guy would just fade away. He's given another chance to play, and blows it -- again.

I feel badly for Theo, because I think he is getting his life in order off the ice. As for the league, it seemed like he was a target the whole season for cheap stunts by opposing fans and cheap shots from other players who apparently didn't appreciate him being there.

Yeah. I heard a few stories of the fans really getting up in his face about his past. It can't be fun to be Theo these days, but I really hope he sticks with it.

Fleury's a wingnut.

Regardless of Theo's problems and how he approaches them, the "I'm the only star in this league and I deserve to be protected" philosophy is never going to win you friends or supporters, on or off the ice.

Fleury's a wingnut. I don't think that he'll ever be that bad.

All I have to say is that the Basingstoke Bison have a funny team name, and that:

PlayerGPGAPtsPIM
Fleury35225577217
those are stats of a true fantasy stud.

Fleury's a wingnut. He should fit right in playing for Belfast. I think I saw him (and the rest of the team) - they were flying over to Cardiff for a game the day I flew to New York in February. There was something quaint about the fact that the players and the supporters were all flying together on the same (EasyJet) flight. Wingnut or not, Belfast have won the league, so he can't be all bad.

217 PIMs in 35 games? Those are also the stats of a talented sociopath.

I don't understand how the league would let anyone like that play in the leagues.

An idiot who apparently would rather be remembered as not a great player in the making, but a guy who belongs in a mental home. He played for the Blackhawks and started like a guy who looked like he was serious about the game more than anger, but it just wasn't meant to be. Too bad he couldn't get it together, he was a true talent gone no-place.

Gone no place? Won a Stanley Cup Won Olympic Gold Played in 7 All Star Games Won World Junior Gold Gone no place lately, maybe, but he went places in the past.

You're right. Theo Fleury is the worst human being to ever choose sport as a profession. The fact that he actually is trying to dry out after realizing that he had a problem, and the fact that he went somewhere else to get away from his old temptations and get back to the discipline that will maybe allow him to get past this problem so he can live out the rest of his life properly, is of no consequence. I'm sorry he ruined your life, melcarek69. Obviously those scars from whatever he did to you haven't healed from the way you speak of him. Pure human filth. Irredeemable. He was bad once. Fuck him forever.

217 PIM for 35 games isn't that horrendous. That's an average of 6.2 PIM per game. So you're looking at maybe a couple of minors and the occasional fight. A chippy style of play, yes, but well worth it if he's scoring 2.2 PPG. Basically the guy's up for a Gordie Howe hat trick every game.

Won World Junior Gold He was also one of the prime instigators in the legendary "Lights Out" bench-clearing brawl with the USSR in the 1987 World Junior Championships. Fleury is one of those players that plays his best when his emotions are on the edge and his personal well-being is ignored (plays with heart and guts). When he's got it under control, he's a superstar. When he's gone over the edge, he's a liability. Other recent examples of this are Darcy Tucker, Todd Bertuzzi and Ron Hextall.

realizing that he had a problem... he went somewhere else to get away from his old temptations Belfast - as places to get away from temptation go, it's not ideal.

Wow Chico, cut out the caffinated coffee dude, you're gonna have a premature heart attack or mind melt! I never said that he was a horrible human being. If you knew how to read words properly, you would have seen me and others say that he had all a man could want in a choice of profession and has blown it. True he had some great stats in the past...true he played in the olympics...and true he tried to get help for his problems. Problem is, you don't return to a semi-violent sport as a way of finding out if you could make a new start. This man has stats which was my point. Unfortunatetly, his stats aren't going to get him into the HOF someday. Why? Because his stats could have been much greater. They aren't because he spent more time away from the game getting his stuff together than he did on the ice. I liked him by the way very much Chico. But everybody has a problem and feeling sorry for this guy is a pointless waste of anyones time. As always, these are my opinions which are every bit as meaningful as yours and I expect the same from you as I give your opinions and that is respect. Attacking someone because you feel differnent is why folks like you need to find something else to do with your time. Have a nice day!

Belfast - as places to get away from temptation go, it's not ideal. You're never going to get a gig with the tourism board like that.

A chippy style of play, yes, but well worth it if he's scoring 2.2 PPG. Which would be, in NHL stats, over 82 games - 509 PIM and 181 points. In other words - impossible and not really 'chippy'. More like record breaking. I don't think the British league is as big on these fantasy stats as we.
