Crisp FINALLY dealt: Well, its about time time the trade came up, but I still think that Boston has bigger issues ahead of itself.

So this is supposed to be the our replacement for Damon... Anyone want to take bets Theo tries to get a CF or a SS mid-year from some team who's out of the playoff hunt? At lease the pitching is improved, but I don't think Manny & David's shpoulders are that big where they can carry the offense every night!!

Did you even look at last year's numbers comparing Damon and Crisp? No, guess not.

crisp is an excellent replacement, and he will have the fenway loyal on his side by the middle of may

Crisp will work out fine for Boston. He will see good pitches because opposing pitchers will be much more willing to have him swing the bat than Manny, Ortiz, or Varitek. Crisp is 26 and his numbers could go up. Having watched Coco play the past couple of years here in Cleveland, i think the fans in boston will warm up to him as long as they don't expect much of his throwing arm. He plays well defensively just doesn't have strong throws. Cleveland on the other hand seems to be throwing in the towel for 2006. Having made no improvements this year they are doomed for mediocrity this season. As usual....wait 'til next year!!!!

As has been said, Crisp and Damon have been very comparable the last two year. Put that with the 6 year age difference, the fact he's gotten better every year in the league, his upside and that he makes $364K versus the $13M Damon is getting for this year and that is quite the deal for the BoSox.

I really didn't expect the sox to improve in CF but I must say they went out and filled the position with the best available player (stats are almost totally identical and they got younger) AND it costs them peanuts to top it off . Good Show, ya bastards.

Not bad at all, especially for such an inept front office. As for his throwing arm, we're use to that.

Crisp is in the mold of a lot of players who come to Boston and then really blossom. Damon essential did just that in his stay here. So has Manny, Varitek and numerous others. Besides, its not the biggest centerfield in BB, so concerns about his arm may be overcooked. Damon was very fast off the batted ball, maybe the best in the majors, which made his price OK for CF at Yankee stadium. Hey- Frank Malzone hung in for a few years strictly because he could hit the wall. Its a special place, Fenway. One never knows who will be a good player in this stadium.

I think Manny was in bloom before he got here. That's why they paid him 20m a year? He's just continued to flower. Ortiz... now Ortiz really blossomed. FloristFilter?

He's a good player, but the rs nation knows he will never be able to replace what Johnny Damon meant to that city and that team. Mark my words, this is Babe Ruth all over again. If this is fate happening, the Yanks will win the series this season

Wait, I thought Pedro was Babe Ruth all over again. Or was that Mark Bellhorn... no wait, Clemens? Mo Vaughn? No no, it was Nomar! Don't confuse "middle aged women think Johnny Damon is hot" with "what Johnny Damon meant to this town" Trust me, real fans are okay with it.

Mark my words, this is Babe Ruth all over again Well, except for a few million points of aggregate slugging percentage, exactly. It amazes me that people think of players like Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner and a few others as Just Another Good Player. Babe Ruth and Johnny Damon aren't comparable. It's like saying $1,000 and $1,000,000,000 are both a lot of money. Accurate, perhaps, but it hides a world of difference.

Mark my words, this is Babe Ruth all over again I think the closest the Red Sox have had to another "Babe Ruth" moment (in the past 20 years) was when they traded for Larry Anderson in August 1990 (check bottom of page for list of trades). They gave up a very good young player that is probably going to the HOF. And even that is still an order of magnitude away from "trading Babe Ruth".

grum I hope you aren't serious. And there is no way this will be another Babe Ruth because Coco Crisp is nowhere near what Babe Ruth was (though Jerseygirl made a better point then I could).

The original poster was comparing the loss of Damon to Babe Ruth, not the gain of Coco Crisp. And what's wrong with grum's Bagwell reference?

Don't forget that in comparing Bagwell or anyone to Ruth you have to ALSO consider what the Red Sox got in return. "You're only young once, but you can be immature forever."--Larry Andersen "Picture you upon my knee Just tea for two And two for tea" -- Tea for Two, "No, No, Nanette" Tough call.

I never thought I'd see the day where a thread dealing with Coco Crisp would be tied in with Babe Ruth. Not that I can predict the future, but I doubt that Crisp, Damon, or whoever else is tossed around this thread will impact the game the way the Ruth deal did. Just a prediction.

I think that's a safe bet.

I never thought I'd see the day where a thread dealing with Coco Crisp would be tied in with Babe Ruth. Well, it really was only just one person who made the connection (BossHogg313), and the rest of us were just refuting the silly statement.

Mark Bellhorn = Babe Ruth all over again? I must be farther out of the loop than I thought.

I think the Indians traded the playoffs away in 2006; but will come up with a steal in the long run. Hopefully the Yankees finally run out of gas, and the Tribe gets in anyway.
