USGA changes rule to allow Wie and other amatuers to accept expense money: Do yo think the tournament sponsors and the PGA had any influence on the USGA? LOL. Very sad.
Sure - if they're responsible for the increased TV audiences, etc. I see no reason to deny monetary benefit to their specific abilities because of age. Why is it OK for child actors, but not sportsmen? Better than being paid under the table in an illegal atmosphere.

Agreed...why should everybody but the athlete performing get rich? I say let them collect the prize if they win and put it in a trust untill they are 18 years old.

if Wie and company accept the "expense money" would they still be eligible to compete in the college?

panteeze - Why is this sad? goddam - My understanding is, no. Nobody has tougher (i.e. stupider) rules on amateur status than the NCAA.

I think when you said 'stupider' what you meant was 'more hypocritical'.

Freddie Adu just turned 16, there've been plenty of under 18s in professional football outside the US (Rooney, Owen, Fabregas come to mind). NCAA = bunch of hypocritical monkeys.

Heck, look at all the problems with gambling and other things with the NCAA. It's about time these guys and gals get some sort of restitution for what they do. College fottball players spend a LOT of time playing, and they can't even have a part-time job...ridiculous!

A loophole to drive a golf cart through. "Expense money". Good one. Well, at least the charade that is "amateur status" can just be dropped. Bring on the multi-millionaire high school golfers!
