Rickey Henderson is OLD: But not as old as Julio Franco. Julio Franco is REALLY OLD.
*cough* Here is a list I compiled and sent off to someone else when they were talking about Julio Franco: Question: What do the following players have in common? Kirby Puckett Joe Carter Don Mattingly Jim Eisenreich Jimmy Key Doug Drabek Juan Samuel Cecil Fielder Randy Myers Terry Pendleton Wade Boggs Willie McGee Jim Abbott Darryl Strawberry Jack McDowell Tom Candiotti Jeff Montgomery Tony Phillips Terry Steinbach Darryl Kile Vince Coleman Darren Daulton Danny Tartabull Mike Greenwell Frank Viola Lenny Dykstra Tom Henke Tom Browning Ron Darling Jim Deshaies John Kruk Jose Rijo Answer: All of them started in the same year as Julio Franco (1982) or later, and have retired and received Hall of Fame votes while Julio is still playing. Kirby Puckett is the only one to actually be elected to the Hall of Fame, and he started his career two years after Julio.

Clearly, the key to staying in great physical shape after 40 is the ability to carry on a conversation with yourself.

Last season I posted the audio here of an incredible 13 pitch at-bat by Franco, which may be one of the best of all time. That guy still has a lot of game left in him.
