Well, really, what did you expect? It was no secret before the WS they were loaded with free agents. Did you think they'd all just sign without testing the waters? And I'm sure the sox don't even want a few. I smell a yankee fan grasping at straws.

I smell a yankee fan grasping at straws. Yankee fans don't need to grasp at straws, justgary. We know that in all likelihood, the Bums will be back in it next year. Hopefully, the same will be true of the Sox. One thing is clear, though -- for either team to make it in the stretch (or even to the stretch), some shrewd off-season personnel decisions will need to be made.

Noooooooooooooooooooo! Somehow, get the sense Yerfatma may have just be overemoting at the incredible talent escaping the Sox. Curtis Leskanic? David McCarty? Who gives a shit?

filed along with right-handers Curtis Leskanic, Ramiro Mendoza . . . left-hander Mike Myers; first baseman Dave McCarty David McCarty? Who gives a ...........? Sometmes its loosing those role players can hurt a team. I agree, MCCarty is no loss--he'll get picked up by somebody--Its those bullpens guys you dont want to loose. Lowe, should be kept around if you cant sign Pedro. It should be a fun Hot stove Season

David McCarty's role was to sit on the bench for 99% of the innings this year when he was active. He got to pitch once or twice. He had one decent year with KC and he's a solid, lefthanded first baseman with a decent fastball, but I think this kind of player (with the exception of the fastball) is cheaper to replace than resign. It's like the opposite of the "hometown discount," where lower-tier players expect more for sticking around a team they have a history with. Sorry Yukon. I know he's your binkie.

The role of those odds n' ends bullpen guys is wildly overrated IMHO. If you have a guy or two in your organization who can spot relievers that a) may have struggled a bit recently and can be fixed with some TLC and b) won't cost more than $1-2M per, you can always replenish the losses of your bullpen. Yerfatma is dead on on this one -- it'd surely cost the Sox a helluva lot more to resign the guys who just won them a title then get some new ragarms for the mop-up work.

Free agents... filing for free agency? WOW!

Yankee fans don't need to grasp at straws, justgary. Maybe not, but I can almost see your glee with this "mass exodus" of boston players. Between this and the pedro knocked in the head thread you almost seem jbou like. It's just amusing ;) (speaking of jbou, he was so vocal during last years playoffs, and this year...nothing. Hmmm.) On topic, the sox had a lot of free agents, they won the WS and now of course players will test the waters. The sox will sign some, some they don't want anyway, and some they'll want but will be out bid by others (yankees over paying for pedro maybe?). I'd love to see the same team return next year, but that's not sports today. So I don't see how this is news (though I respect the fact that you do). Now, when they lose some of these players... One thing is clear, though -- for either team to make it in the stretch (or even to the stretch), some shrewd off-season personnel decisions will need to be made. With the sox, yes. According to everything I've read, they'll not be going any higher, and will probably be cutting the payroll if anything. The can't compete with the yankees payroll period. So they'll have to be smart. King george on the other hand will spend whatever is needed to get whomever he desires. That's a much easier situation to be in, though recent results may suggest otherwise.

It's just amusing ;) Ah, but my dislike of the Red Sox doesn't rise to even a fraction of a percent of the average Red Sox fan's vitriol towards the Yankees ;-) Besides, it's not so much that I dislike the Sox, but I got to be less than fond of their fans in the course of several years of living near Fenway Park. ;-) One thing is clear, though -- for either team to make it in the stretch (or even to the stretch), some shrewd off-season personnel decisions will need to be made. So they'll have to be smart. You can be incredibly stupid with a whole lot of money, though, and don't put it past the Yankees. I mean, it seems simple, to anyone who didn't just fall off the turnip truck -- the Yankees need pitchers. They need to get pitchers, without giving up players whose presence is important to their success. I'd put Posada among those, and already there are murmurs about trading him for some pitching arms. So hang onto your hat.

Calvin and Hobbes is actually the best comic strip ever. I just couldn't stand idily by whilst the truth is trampled upon.

Perpective, people. Krazy Kat is the best comic ever. Get Fuzzy is pretty good for the current crop, though. I have no opinion on the Sox item. Just wanted to weigh in.

Don't worry LBB. I am absolutely positive the Sox fans in here can keep up with your personal vendetta against them.
