Where's the Lindros trade?

Yeah, the Lindros trade was something. Quebec/Colorado definitely benefited from that. If we're going to hockyfy this thread, then as a Leafs fan I'd say the old Gilmour trade with Calgary in '92. Mostly a bust for Calgary. So while Toronto went to the Conference finals twice in the two years following that deal; Calgary really slipped into obscurity. Along with Gary Leeman's career.

here to baseballify this thread. definitely not top 10, but picture it. 1997. boston, seattle. healthcliff slocum for jason varitek and derek lowe. turned out gangbusters for boston, lackluster for seattle. probably one of the best trades the red sox have made in recent history.

Not the biggest bust of all time, but the Robert Traylor for Dirk Nowitzki (and Pat Garrity) trade seems to have worked out pretty well for the Mavs.

Is slocum still in the majors? My baseball knowledge is extremely limited, but I've at least heard of varitek and lowe. SpoFi: where -ifying a thread is welcome.

nope. last year was 2000. he bounced around after he left boston. seattle had him 97, 98. the O's and Cards had him in 99. Cards and San Diego in 00.

From here:
On June 30, 1992, Lindros was sent to the Flyers for Peter Forsberg, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Kerry Huffman, Steve Duchesne, two first-round picks (one used to select Jocelyn Thibault and the other traded twice, eventually used by the Capitals to draft Nolan Baumgartner) and $15 million. A decade later, all the Flyers have to show for the trade is an unsuccessful trip to the 1997 Stanley Cup finals. At the other end of the rink, the Avalanche has captured a pair of Stanley Cups, in 1996 and 2001.

I think the point of this article is that these trades were supposed to make a huge impact, but disappointed -- not that these were lopsided trades necessarily.

conversely -- some of the trades we're discussing weren't supposed to be big deals and turned out to be huge impacts.

More repercussions of the Lindros trade... Thibault was sent to Montreal for Patrick Roy, and the play of Forsberg made Owen Nolan trade-bait...he was sent to San Jose for Sandis Ozolinsh... What about Scottie Pippen for Olden Polynice?

weren't supposed to be big deals and turned out to be huge impacts Yeah, but that's not the idea. The Slocumb swap was an awful reliever for two nobodies.

The Herschel Walker trade was much worse than #7. That thing should have been in the top 3. I needed a donut pillow for years...
