Michael Robinson: : FA Cup finalist with Brighton in 1983 and one-time Liverpool player, now has his own football show in Spain. His replies to the Guardian's set questions are priceless... Mark used to fly into slide tackles, everyone would applaud and he'd be a hero. But Hansen would have seen it long before. Lawrensen was never on his feet; Hansen never needed to be on his bum. Lawrensen was brilliant but Hansen was a genius.
JJ, are you a Liverpool fan? That excerpt was priceless. Cheers.

I am - although I must confess that I don't remember this guy. My football awakening was probably the 1986 FA Cup final, when Liverpool came back from 1-0 down at half-time to beat Everton 3-1.

was that when Ronnie Whelan curled Southall? Oh, that was bloody brilliant. btw, here's a joke from that interview:
There's this Iraqi who signs for Liverpool and he replaces Emile Heskey at half time on his debut. They're 4-0 down but he scores five and the Kop's chanting his name and everything. After the game he phones his mum all excited and tells her. When he's finished raving, he says: "So, how's the family?" And she says: "Well, the house has been looted, the car's been torched and your Dad's been shot." And he says: "Blimey Mum, I'm so sorry." To which she replies: "You bloody well should be - you're the reason we moved to Liverpool".

btw, I don't remember Robinson either, but I do remember watching all the players he's talking about in my formative years. Rushie!

He sure disses Houllier and Owen. Also, I found it funny that he was criticizing the presenters for being ex-footballers when, AFAIK, that's what Robinson is too. Smack me bum!

He had a point though. British football coverage is oh so bland. There's no passion from the presenters. No feeling of what football means to the supporters. I'd love someone to give him complete creative freedom to make a footy show in England. Show the rest of them how it's done. /actually went to the 1983 Man U-Brighton Cup Final..

I watched today's ManUre-Southampton featuring Alan Parry on the mic and he pointed out fan actions several times, including a chant that the crowd took up supporting Sir Alex. OT: Was I mistaken or did Saha show that Diego Forlan will be sitting on the bench the rest of the year?

Yes, Saha did well. But I still think Forlan is pretty good for what he does. He has impressed me since coming to Manchester United. Saha was pretty fucking selfish...he seems sorry for leaving Fulham, but he only wants forgiveness so he can play in Manchester without guilt.

Superb! What a man. I have often looked at his TV show when I have been hanging around some bar in Spain and wished I could comprehend it; he always looks as if he is having a whale of a time.
