Don't bother the usher - I'll get it: Natural selection? Tragedy? And is Staci related to the Sargeant, or Enos? The only question left is: Whom do they sue?

In this fool's defense, sunglasses are expensive nowadays. If some lawyer can spin this into PacBell being liable, well, I'll be laughing, but crying on the inside.

In this fool's defense - he was a idiot. Like - cartoon idiot. Wile E. Coyote - Super Genius.

Surely even in the USA you couldn't sue after displaying this level of stupidity. What a muppet.

Muppet - that's one of my favorites. Muppet and asshat - great, dismissive, pitiful put-downs. Wouldn't it suck if this guy was a Rhodes scholar and champion rock climber? And he died because he couldn't get by the drunk, screaming, giant, fat guys the were bookending him to walk to get his sunglasses that were going to be stolen by some loose-ethics janitor who saw them fall? And he slipped on the totally climbable lightstand because some other asshat spat a wad of tobacco juice there half an inning earlier? But no - we'll just stick to the Muppet/Asshat theory. Much more comforting.

I think it sucks regardless of the circumstances. The death penalty is a pretty harsh punishment for stupidity or drunken foolishness.

Erm, nobody forced this guy to climb over a wall from 24 feet up. When you do something like this, you're taking a risk for, what is hoped, a suitable reward. In this case, he ate all the risk. Saying this is "penalty" and "punishment" implies that someone made him fall to his death. Also, I'd rather let sunglasses go then climb like that. Holy crap. The man made a mistake, a tragic, fatal one. And nobody is to blame but him. Let's not obfuscate the truth by appealing to sympathy.

btw, read rcade's link. The guy, Todd Edwards, was trying to jump (jump, I tell you!) "to a light fixture outside the outfield wall so he could jump to the pavement below."! wtf! rcade was right, he was trying to "pull a Jackie Chan." Well, even Jackie Chan gets a hole in his skull from doing a planned, staged stunt. And this guy was no Jackie.

But I want to obfuscate the truth! I think in all fairness death is the penalty he paid for his foolishness, but it obviously seemed like a good idea at the time. I know I've made my fair share of boneheaded plays - Garf - remember the time I drank that bottle of cough syrup? - but have yet to pay this, the ultimate price. Life is so fragile, so delicate - especially when you drop your sunglasses.

Here's a story with more details. Apparently, the guy tried to pull a Jackie Chan and climb down a light fixture rather than going the long way down to retrieve some sunglasses.
