Is anyone paying attention to the Australian Open?: The first Grand Slam event of the year is well into its eight day. Men's no. 1 player (and Aussie) Leyton Hewitt was knocked out by 18th seed Younes el Aynaoui. Agassi rolls on. Kournikova loses again. Women players make funny faces. Oh, never mind.

I guess not. Especially if it's not Wimbledon or the US Open.

I've been keeping an eye on it...but like tieguy says you have to be pretty into it to watch some of the early round games. Unless of course you're in it for Kournikova in which case first round matches are your only chance to catch her. Have the Williams sisters been knocked out of doubles? There was quite a bit of controversy surrounding their number one seeding. I checked the link for doubles updates but it blew up my browser twice.

I watch all the men's matches I can. The younes el Aynaoui match was spectacular, and Agassi had no problems at all with Grosjean last night. I hope they both meet in the finals. The women's draw doesn't really interest me.

Does anyone ever pay any attention to the first week of two week tennis tourneys except hard-core tennis junkies?
